In Morocco, many families use the weeks before Ramadan or Eid to freshen up the home: a new coat of paint in the living room, a kitchen that has to cope with a month of ftour, guests to host, and for Eid al-Adha, a terrace or garage to prepare. If you are in the diaspora and coming home for the holidays, or you own a property you rent out, the same rule applies: everyone has the same idea at the same time, and craftsmen get fully booked. This guide helps you make the list, put safety first and book in time.

When to start: the calendar

Dates depend on the moon sighting and are announced officially by the Ministry of Habous. Based on astronomical forecasts, Ramadan 2027 is expected to start in early February 2027 and Eid al-Adha to fall around mid-May 2027, subject to confirmation.

The rule of thumb: contact craftsmen three to four weeks ahead. During Ramadan many work shorter hours, and the week before Eid is often fully booked. From abroad, a relative can let the craftsman in and check the result while you follow on WhatsApp.

Priority one: kitchen safety

During Ramadan the kitchen works hard, often at the same time as the water heater. Check gas and electrics before any cosmetic work.

Plumbing: fix small leaks first

With more guests and dishes, a small leak quickly becomes a real problem.

Painting and freshening up the living room

Repainting the living room and entrance is the classic pre-holiday job. A Moroccan construction portal recorded in 2026 painter labour at about 30 to 60 MAD per m² for two coats, paint not included. Prices vary by city, wall condition and the paint chosen.

Allow enough time: if walls show damp or cracks, they must be treated and dried first. Paint applied on a damp wall blisters within weeks.

Eid al-Adha: terrace, garage and drainage

For Eid al-Adha, many families keep the sheep for a few days on the terrace, in the garage or the courtyard. A few simple jobs make this cleaner.

Eid in May: think about air conditioning now

If Eid al-Adha falls in May, the first heat arrives. It is a good time to have filters cleaned and the AC (clim) checked before summer, when technicians become harder to reach.

Book a craftsman in time with AloAji

On aloaji.ma, search for the trade you need (painter, plumber, electrician, tiler, air conditioning) in your city, then call or message directly on WhatsApp. It is free, with no middleman. You can contact two or three craftsmen on the same day to compare prices and availability.

Some profiles are marked Non vérifié (not verified): these are businesses found through their own website and not yet checked by AloAji. Read the reviews and get the price and date in writing before work starts.

FAQ

How far ahead should I book a craftsman before Ramadan?

Ideally three to four weeks ahead. Just before Ramadan and in the week of Eid, many craftsmen are fully booked.

Do craftsmen work during Ramadan?

Yes, but often with shorter or shifted hours. Agree on working hours before the job starts.

How much does it cost to paint a living room?

As a guide, labour was about 30 to 60 MAD per m² for two coats in 2026, paint not included. The total depends on area, wall condition and city.

What safety check should come first?

Gas: an in-date hose, a sound regulator, and a gas water heater in a ventilated space. A gas leak or a poorly ventilated heater is dangerous.

Can I organise the work from abroad?

Yes. Contact craftsmen by WhatsApp, ask for photos and a written quote, and have a relative or neighbour open the door and check the finished job.
